Following my ‘5 Step formula for the Perfect Dating Profile’ (this will be broken down on my blog over the coming weeks, but can be seen in it’s entirety in 5 separate posts here) , I will analyze two match.com profiles below.
My 5 Step formula:
1) Photos, smiling, clear 3 minimum – face, full body and action
2) Introduction – opening gambit
3) What you offer
4) What you are looking for
5) Invitation to connect

Hey ;-) If I were to sum myself up, I’d say I am fun, passionate, caring, cheerful, bubbly, energetic and love life. I have a good sense of humour and love to make people laugh – A well-developed sense of humour and fun is the key to success! I don’t really have a fixed idea of a ‘Match’ – except to say I would be to meet a like-minded person with similar qualities and shares the same values as well as being positive, kind, loyal, spontaneous and energetic. I appreciate this is very brief, but if you would like to know more, then please give me a ‘wink’ or send an e-mail;-) Look forward to hearing from you real soon…..
Lets break it down to cover my 5 step Formular
1) This guys photos his profile is a smiling head shot, and his other photos include various outdoors photos, travel photos and a photo suited and booted in his dicky bow. Perfect.
2) Introduction (what’s visible with his profile photo I.e his first sentence). ‘If I were to sum myself up, I’d say I am fun, passionate, caring, cheerful, bubbly, energetic and love life.’ This ticks the boxes and will interest women.
3) Aside from the sentence above which acts as an intro and part of what he offers, he follows on to say, ‘I have a good sense of humour and love to make people laugh – A well developed sense of humour and fun is the key to success!’ GSOH is pretty high on the list of things a woman wants.
4) What he is looking for, ‘I don’t really have a fixed idea of a ‘Match’ – except to say I would be to meet a like-minded person with similar qualities and shares the same values as well as being positive, kind, loyal, spontaneous and energetic.’ He’s open minded – brownie points.
5) Invitation to connect: ‘I appreciate this is very brief, but if you would like to know more, then please give me a ‘wink’ or send an e-mail;-) Look forward to hearing from you real soon…..’ Cheeky, friendly and fun. Top marks.
Yes the profile is brief but it covers everything that’s important and the brevity leaves a certain amount of intrigue, and room for conversation.
I’d give it an 8 out of 10.
This week’s Pants Profile –

Tall dark good looking
I am a successful entrepreneur, who is living in a big house, never been married, no children. like traveling ,art, music and cooking
1) This guy has 2 photographs. His profile photo is a ‘Crimewatch’ stylee photo, dark and serious. The lighting is so bad (stark white behind him) that his whole eye area looks dark and it creates a rather scary look. It’s unlikely he could have put a more unflattering on his profile. His second photo he’s attempted a small smile, but again the photo is dark, it’s been taken inside and the mono brow shows he’s not into grooming in any way. The photo has been taken indoors and it’s being shot upwards, which isn’t flattering for anyone unless you have the bone structure of Angelina Jolie on your chin/jaw area. This guy needed to groom himself (trim the brows), and then get a friend to take some outdoor photos where the brightness would hide his dark eyes, and to make sure the photos he uses he is genuinely smiling in.
2) His intro is – ‘I am a successful entrepreneur, who is living in a big house, never been married, no children’. This is wrong on so many levels. Firstly no one should label themselves an entrepreneur – it’s a name others can give but shouldn’t be used to sell yourself on a dating website such as match.com. Secondly there is no point in saying you are ‘tall dark and handsome’ if that’s not how you look in the photo. The photos are there for people to make their own opinions of what they think of your looks/photos. Mentioning the ‘big house, never married and no children’ he seems to think that it will be a key attraction for women. It’s not, they’re most likely to be thinking – why? And potentially this guy could be a commitment phobe. There is nothing to say anything about his personality – which could be interpreted as he’s dull.
3) What does he offer? A big house and it seems he wants to suggest ‘money’ by mentioning he’s an entrepreneur. But the fact there’s so much emphasis on it, would imply that this is completely not true.
4) What is he looking for? No clue whatsoever.
5) Invitation to connect – There isn’t one. His last sentence is ‘like traveling ,art, music and cooking’ His profile is so bad it suggests a lack of education/intelligence which isn’t congruent with being an entrepreneur.
Sadly there is not one positive thing I can say about this profile. This guy is not going to have had any dates or responses to his ad.
I’d give it a 0 out of 10
