There’s been a lot of controversy around Jim Davidson’s Big Brother win, however I feel it was well deserved. I am definitely a Jim fan, and I’d be just as grumpy if I was being kept awake at night! I’d have loved to have been in the house with him. He was entertaining, funny, caring and a great cook.

Is this suggesting that women are realizing men have been a bit lost with their role since the rise of the alpha, female, independent woman who doesn’t need a man for money or a family, and are now taking a step back and being accepting of more traditional male values and ways?

Jim is a funny man and whilst I would consider him sexist (as is Dappy), I don’t dislike him for it. I agree with ‘some’ sexism. Men and women are different, we are built differently and as Dappy rightly pointed out, there are things that men can do better than women and visa versa. That’s not to say that there aren’t exceptions to the rule, however this is a generalization based on the fact that both our bodies and minds are different.

I myself am an independent woman, however I do appreciate old traditional values – men opening doors, men doing ‘man jobs’, lifting heavy items etc..  and whilst I have my independence I consider myself to have a healthy mix of the two; femininity and independence.

In my opinion more women now understand that men need to feel that they have a role and purpose and are negotiating a happy medium between their independence and their alpha male counterparts.

Women are realizing perhaps that although metro-sexual men like Ollie are great fun to be around and very understanding emotionally of women’s needs (they make great friends!), they simply still desire and need on a basic level an alpha male.

Bearing in mid that most of the voters/callers are women it is interesting to note the contrast with the final 5:

1)   Jim Davidson – Alpha male

2)   Dappy – Alpha male

3)   Ollie – Metrosexual

4)   Sam – Feminine

5)   Luiza – Alpha female

The top two being strong alpha males suggests that this is still what women desire and find attractive in men. It shows that being Metro sexual as a man is becoming less popular.

For the women in the top 5, femininity is more appealing and the Alpha female is on its way out at the bottom of the pile!

Even Luiza who was the strong Alpha male left in the house started to warm to Jim and accept him. I wonder how many of the viewers views changed about Jim over the series.

As the Daily Telegraph reported last month there was a big controversy when an Italian book came out titled ‘Get Married and be Submissive,’ which topped the best seller charts in both Spain and Italy, although it’s not yet translated into English.

Look also at how popular the 50 Shades series became.

These are clearly extreme examples, however I believe that now we are seeing women growing with their confidence and not feeling they have to prove they are better than men any more, therefore becoming more accepting and understanding of men.

Metrosexuals are out for 2014 and Alpha males are back in the game, with women choosing to be more feminine and less Alpha and aggressive.

This I believe will balance things out and start to produce more successful, fulfilling relationships.
